There is a wide difference between the yoga and exercise. Asanas have a psycho-physiological dimension, which is not the case with other physical exercises purely external. While asanas develop body awareness, they also lead to an inner awareness, and stabilize the mind. Yoga cultivates the mind and body. In yoga, in addition to the precision common to the other exercise, it cultivates a deeper awareness that balances the body and mind.
Like physical exercise, asanas build muscle, reduce stiffness and make body movements freer. However, the asanas are aimed more at physiological body and vital organs as the physical body. They strengthen and revitalize internal organs. Each asana has an effect on the entire system. It is an exercise that removes organic toxins.
Asanas and pranayama are very beneficial for the optimum functioning of the brain, nerves and spine.
Yoga can be practiced by anyone at any age. It is particularly beneficial for people over 40 years whose recuperative powers of the body decline, and disease resistance decreases. It makes energy and vitality.
